I can try to give you my impressions on several aspects of the game, I'll try to be as objective as I can. I finished the main quest line and explored the entire galaxy map. The bowl confirms the importance of Jewish communities in Central Asia before the Islamic conquest and shows the contribution of Judaism to the transcultural invention of the Earthly Paradise, between the Greco-Roman and the Indo-Iranian worlds.I just finished playing Endless sky. According to our interpretation, the “Greek bowl” from Lhasa is a “Bactrian” silver bowl from the late 5th or the 6th century, which provides the earliest image of a Jewish version of the Alexander Romance: Alexander plucking the incense tree and drinking the water of life in a paradeisos on the extremities of India. The Jews, who saw Alexander as their forerunner on these eastern edges of the world, reinforced his fame, presenting him as the first guide towards the nearby Earthly Paradise. At the same time, Sogdians of Samarkand honored Alexander as founder (of their city and of Nana’s temple).
The revival of Alexander the Great’s prestige in the Roman Empire of the 3rd–5th centuries has an Eastern counterpart: the post-Sassanian, Kidarite, and especially Hephtalite elites of Central Asia used the so-called “Bactrian” silverware decorated with Greco-Roman motives, through which they praised their glory as much as sometimes that of Alexander, heir of the Achaemenids and conqueror of. The original, interdisciplinary approach to the matter allows a consistent revision of the ancient sources and sheds now light on the topic, providing important reflections for future studies on the subject. It shows that Italy gained a territorial and symbolic shape, and own institutions defining it as a territorial region, and that a regional identity developed as a consequence by the 2nd century BCE. This book starts therefore from the consideration that Italy came to be, by the end of the Republic, a region within the Roman imperium, and investigates the ways this happened and its consequences on the local populations and their identity structures. In this sense, this debate has for a long time been conducted without sufficient imput from social sciences, and particularly from social geography, which has developed methodologies and models for the investigation of identities.
Scholarship has widely debated the question about the existence of an 'Italian identity' in the time of the Roman Republic, basing on the few sources available and on the outcomes of the Augustan and imperial age. More precisely than the stamps who suggest a date before 630 AD, this show-plate fits the context of 622/624 AD, when Heraclius and Martina (alias Meleager and Atalanta) get married and obtained their first important victories against the Sassanians in Asia Minor. Even if we lack literary sources confirming it, we must assume that representations of Meleager and Atalanta, common in the Roman art of the 2nd-5th/6th centuries AD, were still well known at the beginning of the 7th century. The tragic myth of Meleager, who sacrificed himself for his love towards Atalanta, was also a good answer to those who criticized Heraclius’ incestuous marriage with Martina, his companion in the Persian campaigns. Through the epic myth of Meleager, Heraclius could have express his ambition or pride at defeating the most terrible boar ravaging his empire and killing the innocent lamb, symbol of the Holy Cross and of his Christian subjects: this “Boar of the Empire” was Šahrwarāz, general of the Sassanian king Chosroes II and king himself in 630 AD. He probably used the royal symbolism of the boar hunting imitating the emperors Diocletian, Constantine, Constance II as well as Gregory the Illuminator, the convertor of the Armenians. Heraclius, the basileus who claimed Cappadocian and maybe even Arsacid roots, was hunter of lions and wild boars (Fredegar, Chronicle 4.65 630). The plate can be compared with the famous David plates discovered in Cyprus, for some decoration details but also for their aim in political communication. ω 1 represents Meleager and Atalanta, accompanied by two servants at the beginning of their successful hunt of Calydon.
